Becky Kuhn, MD, describes the symptoms of AIDS. According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the symptoms include: * “rapid weight loss” * “dry cough” * “recurring fever or profuse night sweats” * “profound and unexplained fatigue” * “swollen lymph glands in the armpits, groin, or neck” * “diarrhea that lasts for more than a week” * “white spots or unusual blemishes on the tongue, in the mouth, or in the throat” * “pneumonia” * “red, brown, pink, or purplish blotches on or under the skin or inside the mouth, nose, or eyelids” * “memory loss, depression, and other neurological disorders” If you have one or more of these symptoms, does it necessarily mean you are infected with HIV or have developed AIDS? No. Many common diseases can cause one or more of these symptoms. For example, most people with a fever or sore throat are probably just experiencing common illnesses such as the cold, influenza, or mononucleosis. A person is only diagnosed if they are confirmed HIV+ and also either have a CD4 count under 200 or have an opportunistic infection that is indicative of a weakened immune system. So don’t panic. But if you have any of these symptoms and think theres even the slightest chance you might ever have been exposed to HIV, you should see a doctor and ask to be tested for HIV. Remember, the CDC recommends that all adults be tested for HIV regardless of whether they believe they have any risk factors or exposure to HIV and regardless of …

@AIDSvideos Ok, type in ”German singer in court at HIV trial”….so you think that is acceptable?! Im sorry if you, yourself is infected with HIV but it is EXTREMELY selfish to expose this terrible virus to other uninfected people, don’t you see that the situation will get much worse if this continues and it will continue to rise. it is easy to say that my beliefs are ”immoral” if you already have the disease, but given the choice, would you WANT to be infected, i dont think so!
we enforce laws on people getting tested for measles, chicken pox, hepatitis…. yet, not required to get AID/HIV test…… wow…. stupid government.
@tauro2: (1) I’m HIV-. My HIV status has nothing to do with my stance on this issue, which is determined by the objective scientific evidence. (2) You are wrongly assuming that it is a choice between (a) uncontrolled spread of the virus, or (b) your proposal to deny treatment to the sick. That’s a false dichotomy. There is also option (c) for people to use condoms, not share needles, and prevent mother-to-child transmission. With those 3 techniques we could nearly eliminate the virus.
@tauro2: (3) For an HIV+ person to have unprotected sex with a partner is against medical recommendations, and for them to do it without informing the partner of their HIV+ status is a criminal offense in many places, as this singer is now finding. Prosecutions for such offenses will deter such behavior. (4) If you deny HIV+ people treatment, no one will get tested and learn their status in the first place, increasing spread of the virus. Go study public health before you propose policy.
@AIDSvideos..but do you really think the people who are doing all those things that you mentioned above are really going to take heed from this clip? I know you are trying to raise awareness, but so have so many other people before you in the same fashion…and has it made a difference? No it hasn’t…there is an unbelievable amount of people out there with this ”it won’t happen to me” attitude, and if you actually believe that nothing drastic should be done, then to me you’re as bad as them!
@tauro2: Actually, the evidence is that the global campaign about HIV/AIDS *has* made a difference. New infections per year peaked in the mid-1990s and have dropped about 1/3 since then. Also, leaving morality aside, your proposal to deny treatment for HIV+ people would cause people suspecting HIV to choose not to get tested, which would *increase* the spread of the virus, not decrease it. Your proposal is drastic all right–drastically counterproductive.
I am dying of aids.
I had a women give me oral sex and then I had penis-vaginal contact for about 30 seconds, then i put a condom on! then 3 days after I got a sore throat and now im freaking out because i’ve heard that may be a symtpoms! how soon do you get any of these symptoms.
thanks
@shotyboy: See our video “Did I Just Contract HIV? Symptoms of HIV Infection” for a discussion of symptoms a person MAY experience shortly after becoming infected with HIV. (Not all people who contract HIV get any symptoms at all during the primary HIV infection period.) See a doctor and get tested for HIV and follow their instructions. Only a doctor can diagnose.
AIDSVIDEOS do u think i could have aids?? ima virgin and i get tired alot and some headaches… and i know someone who has some of these symptoms could i or this person hav aids?? plz reply back to me,
@bridget2695: This is Eric; I’m not a doctor. See a doctor and be evaluated.
signs and symptoms ? when will u get to the point of the video and tell us the god damn signs
@stussyboys: At 3:35, after we state important disclaimers (like reminding folks that watching videos is no substitute for seeing a doctor) and tell people basic information about HIV/AIDS so they’re ready for the specifics about AIDS symptoms.
Hi! I did had sex with a prostitute in China back in June and I did use a condom but I got into it so much I pissed while doing it! Do you think my pee could of ripped the condom open? I am scared! Me and the prostitute lasted about a minute more or less having sex!
@daredevil335619: See a doctor. Get tested for HIV. Realize that you can contract HIV and other conditions through sex EVEN IF you use a condom. Using a condom correctly every time greatly reduces but does not eliminate your risk of HIV. There’s a lesson here. Being scared is no fun, right? So how about refraining from having sex with sex workers in the future?
@AIDSvideos
Yeah I am not having sex until I am getting married. I got my first test like two weeks after having sex and it was negative and next week will be my second test. Well few days after I came back, I was feeling a bit heated, mostly in my butt but it was gone a week later. But could pee break open a condom?
Is it possible to get an STD from an eyebrow waxing?
Please answer.
@metallicaG22: This is Eric; I’m not a doctor; I have no idea. I know nothing about eyebrow waxing. STDs are normally only contracted through sexual contact or the sharing of bodily fluids.
@stussyboys LOL….I was thinking the same thing.
Is it possible that I have contracted AID’s as me and an african girl I met at a club recently and had nose sex, my friend told me black skin is a sign of AID’s and he thinks I have caught it, Please help me.
@purplemelophants: This is Eric; I’m not a doctor. Skin color is not a sign of HIV/AIDS. Not sure what you mean by “nose sex.”. Get tested for HIV, follow your doctor’s instructions, and use safer sex techniques if you choose to be sexually active going forward.
@daredevil335619 the window period is 12 weeks so need to get tested again to get an accurate results.
