I Ditched Depression And So Can You
I ditched depression after after heartbreak. I ditched depression after, I lost my job as a result of refusing to take the vaccine and I can attest to the fact that, losing ones’ job feels like the world has been turned upside down. When all my monies were going out and no money was coming in, I ditched depression. When my spouse switched joint accounts into his name and stopped supporting me; I ditched depresion. When I was refused unemployment benefits, I ditched depression and so can anyone.
I worked at the same job for 11 years and because I decided to stick to my convictions and religious beliefs; I found myself unemployed. It’s now going on four years since I have been without a job. I’ve been looking for work and with my experience one would think that landing a job would be easy. Well, it’s not. The fear and uncertainty that comes after being unemployed are completely natural still, I didn’t allow that to define my future.
The good olde saying , “every disappointment is a blessing” came to mind and had me thinking; What if this challenging moment was the start of something new, something great? What if this was all part of God’s master plan for me? In this blog post, I will show you how I transformed job loss into biggest opportunity yet, using my faith and actionable strategies that helped me to rebuild and thrive.
I Ditched Depression Step 1: Processing Of Emotions and Resetting The Mindset
The initial wave of emotions after being fired can be overwhelming. Anger, sadness, and fear are common but, they are also temporary. I spent time grieving the loss but, I did not grieve for a long time; I did set a limit. I journaled, talked to friends, and help from God – always praying, reading my Bible, and listening to Godly men of God and these helped as they provided me with an outlet for my feelings. Some people seek professional help which is also okay but, I chose to drop it at the feet of my Savior and left it there. Once I acknowledged my emotions and shifted my mindset , I knew I would be alright. As the good book says, think on the lovely and pure things. So, instead of seeing this as an end I viewed it as a fresh start, a new beginning.
Step 2: Assessing Of Skills and Redefining Of Goals
Losing my job gave me a rare opportunity to pause and reflect on my career. In my time of reflection, I asked myself:
- What skills do I have that I truly enjoy using?
- Were there aspects of my previous job that I didn’t love?
- What is my dream career path?
I updated my resume to highlight my transferable skills and accomplishments. I also took time to identify areas where I needed to grow or improve like learning a new software program or earning additional certification in my field.
Step 3: Networking With Purpose
Networking can feel daunting especially, when one is between jobs but, it proved to be one of the most effective ways for me to uncover new opportunities. I reached out to former colleagues, friends, and mentors to let them know that , I was exploring my next steps and shared my career goals. Then, I hopped over to LinkedIn to optimize my profile as LinkedIn is a very powerful tool that allows connecting with professionals in my industry.
Step 4: Consider New Opportunities
Sometimes, getting fired is a good thing as it can push you toward opportunities you would never have considered otherwise; Especially, if there are industries or roles a person is curious about. So when the opportunity to explore these opportunities present themselves it can be embraced as now one has all the the time in the world. Whether it’s starting your own business, freelancing, or transitioning to a new field, this moment can be a springboard for growth.
Step 5: Focusing on Self-Care
Taking care of one’s mental and physical health is essential during this transition. So, I walk daily , (my form of exercise), eat healthy, and maintain a regular sleep schedule. Every day I practice meditation or mindfulness by staying in the word and this helps me to manage stress while staying focused on God and my goals. I know that my worth isn’t tied to my job title and you should remember that also. It is very important to prioritize one’s well-being while navigating this new chapter.
Step 6: I Ditched Depression Taking Small, Consistent Steps
Rebuilding a career doesn’t happen overnight so, I ask the good lord to help me set realistic goals and guide me as I take small, consistent actions every day. Whether it was applying for a single job, attending a networking event, or updating my portfolio, each step brought me closer to my next opportunity.
Step 7: Embrace the Opportunity to Reinvent Yourself
Many people look back on being fired as a crucial moment in their lives. For me it was a chance to reinvent myself, take risks, and pursue what truly matters. By embracing this mindset, you too can turn fear into motivation and uncertainty into opportunity.
But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31
I ditched depression; Being fired is undeniably challenging, but it can also be the reason for incredible growth and transformation. By processing your emotions, reassessing your goals, and taking intentional steps forward, you can turn job loss into your greatest opportunity yet. Remember, the end of one chapter is often the beginning of another—one that may be even better than you imagined. Just like I ditched depression; I believe you can also.
